Lecturer: Ye Xiangdong

Abstract:

There are many research branches in Mathematics. Nowadays, a trend of mathematical research is the intersection and fusion of multiple branches. In the speech, we start with Van der Waerden Theorem, a classical result of combinatorial number theory (if the set of positive integers is divided into the union of finite sets, one set must contain arithmetical progression with any finite length), and introduce how the combinatorial number theory, algebra, dynamical system and harmonic analysis affect each other to produce new research results.

Introduction to the Lecturer:

Ye Xiangdong, professor from University of Science and Technology of China, has long been engaged in the research of topological dynamic system, ergodic theory and its application in fundamental mathematics. He and his collaborators have conducted in-depth research on the structure theorem of dynamical system, convergence of multiple mean ergodic, entropy theory, complexity of dynamical system and their applications, and obtained a series of profound results.

He won the 14th Chen Shengshen Prize in Mathematics in 2013, the second prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2018, was elected to be an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2019, and won the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation in 2020.
