Title: Simple choreographies in Newtonian N-body problem.

Abstract: In the year 2000, using variational method, A. Chenciner and R. Montgomery proved the celebrated “Figure-Eight” solution of the three body problem with equal masses. The remarkable feature of this solution is that all three masses travel on a single loop in the shape of figure 8. Soon after for arbitrary N body problem with equal masses, many solutions with the particular feature that all masses travel on a single loop with different shapes were discovered numerically by C. Simo and he named such solutions “simple choreographies”.

In this talk, we give a proof of a special family of simple choreographies called “linear chains”. As a result, this confirms a conjecture given by Chenciner, Gerver, Montgomery and Simo in 2002.
