Variational Method and Its Application to Some Elliptic Equations

Abstract:This lecture will introduce in a way of easy-to-be-understood the history and basic idea of variational method and its application in some elliptic equations. Because some mathematical models with geometric or physical background involve elliptic equations and lack compactness, the research of these equations is more important and difficult. How to use variational method to study such problems has always been one of the important contents of the application of variational method. This lecture report will introduce several types of elliptic problems.

Introduction to the Lecturer:Zou Wenming is currently the long-term professor and doctoral director of the teaching and research series of the Department of Mathematical Science of Tsinghua University, the head of the Department of Mathematical Science, the member of the Mathematics Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of education, the executive director of Chinese Mathematical Society (CMS), and the member of the Editorial Committee of Chinese Science- Mathematics. Recipient of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and Special Government Allowances From 1998 to 1999, he conducted postdoctoral research at Stockholm University in Sweden. From 2001 to 2004, he was a visiting assistant professor and lecturer at the University of California at Irvine.

Two English monographs were published in Springer-New York in the United States, which systematically established the theoretical framework of the new critical point. Infinite dimensional weak link thoery without PS compactness is established systematically. His many achievements are in the leading position in the research of ground state solutions of four-dimensional Bose Einstein condensed elliptic equations, classification of lane Emden equations, sirakov conjecture and normal solutions of Schrödinger equations. Search for the relevant terms and facts on the papers published by famous foreign experts in international journals, and the results of Zou appear: Zou's Fountain Theorem, Zou's Approach, Zou's Definition, Zou's Lemma, Zou's is the initiate, Zou's is original, Direct imitation of Zou's proof, Inspired by Zou, following Zou's articles and so on. The research results have triggered and inspired a lot of follow-up research work.
